I've been Djing Drumnbass, Breakbeat, Ragga, Dub & Music of Jamaican influence for over 10 years. I got into minimal internet radio stations while writing uni assignments, I found it helps me think in straight lines, which my brain is not naturally accustomed to. I began collecting tunes that I thought were good examples of the genre, i.e. minimal, repetetive, yet still interesting, good music.
I listened to numerous mixes by the likes of Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox...and found all the tracks they play extremely boring, and the style of mixing also very boring. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, these guys are hailed as greats, but nothing in their record boxes or catalogues takes my fancy.
I decided I could do better, and created this mix in Ableton Live. I rarely get to play DJ sets of minimal music as I am known more for Dubstep, Filthy Electro, Brekbeat, Drumnbass, Ragga, Breakcore & Jungle. I'd be keen to play a party for a minimal crowd.
